Gramps asks, Gramps gets.
Joan again brought over dinner tonight and was rewarded with Nico wide awake for most of the time she held him.

Ok, so this isn't a recent photo, clearly. Stephen and I were just going through these 21 week ultrasound photos, reminiscing. We now think this one is particularly interesting, because Nico was born with his hand right up next to his head, just like in this photo!
Day 6

Off to a good start...
Nico's hanging out with Mama, Doba and Samirah (our cats) this morning while Daddy catches some much-needed zzzz's.
Hmm.. I'm noticing we now refer to ourselves almost exclusively in the context of our relationship to Nico.. 'mama' and 'daddy'. I guess that's our new-parent license. The same license that allows us to demand immediate hand-washing of everybody who comes into our home... and to already be discussing how 'advanced' our little Nico appears to be (have we mentioned that he can shove his own hand into his mouth to sooth himself? He'll be writing short stories by the time he's 4, we're certain...).

I'm reminded of the number of photos of my little sister Judi before she was 5: 2.
Ah, poor Judi, victim of being the 5th child in 6 years. The first child, Kimberly Kay, oh about 3 LARGE books of pictures. Laurie quite a few, Mark being the first boy had quite a few and of course myself being cute as all get out, there are naturally many many many pictures. Probably because they figured I'd be a model and the childhood pictures would be worth so much money.
But Judi, not so many pictures. She was pretty cute too. One of the pictures is of her crashed out with her head laying on the highchair tray.

I can't blame the kid for looking so suspicious of me when I start up the camera and hold him about a foot away. These are all no flash, but he's been burned before and he no likey the flash, no sirree.
We have got to get some video going, because of course he does the absolute cutest things pretty much all the time.
Our child caregiver said he was quite advanced as he is able to actually place his hand into his mouth. On purpose. With deliberate speed and accuracy. We'll just file that as Advanced Story Number 4 because I'm quite sure I remember several comments from the midwife during delivery about his 1) strength, 2) perfect reactions to the process and subsequent positioning and 3) we'll have to review the tapes and recordings of our hospital birthing process to ferret this one out.
The movers are coming tomorrow with several large filing cabinets to store all of our Advanced Stories about Nico.

well, we finally got around to giving Nico his first bath. evidently twice a week is good, that's about Daddy's rate, so it all seems reasonable to me. This picture is from right after, we have some video, we'll see if we can put it together for this blog.
