This was quite the project Grammy got going. The kids didn't know the ingredients were a treat. Grammy was making dinner and when we were getting ready for daycare in the morning, Nico was hesitant to go since he had been sick for two days and didn't go those days. So, I promised him a treat after dinner. He asked me after we were done what the treat was and I said it was a surprise... So, Grammy started off by saying that she'd been talking to some little birds in the neighborhood and they needed nests for their eggs. She wanted to know if Nico and Maya would help build the nests. The first ingredient was melted chocolate that Grammy called mud. Then she mixed in lighter colored mud (peanut butter) and Nico mixed and mixed. Then some straw (shredded wheat cereal) and sticks (choy mein noodles) and oh what did she call the coconut? All mixed up, the kids didn't taste any of it. Then the mixture was formed into little nests and then the eggs (jelly beans) were set into the nests. I was cleaning the kitchen while this was going on and I was amazed that they didn't eat any of it and they bought Grammy's line about talking to the birds and how she'd gathered up all the ingredients from around the neighborhood. Hook, line and sinker. Put it all away and then we went upstairs to get dinner and bring it down. Dinner with Grammy and Gramps was fun and especially so when we revealed the surprise dessert!
