On Lake Calhoun

Here we are for the first time out on Lake Calhoun. We waited until January and long after we'd seen the fishing huts out on the ice. The snow was great, just a few inches deep so it made for easy walking and thus pulling of the sled. We stayed close to shore and enjoyed the late afternoon sun on a calm wind day with temperatures in the mid-20's. It was a fantastic time to be out!
Because of the icy snow last week, most of the sidewalks were easily passable with the sled. This sled has a metal strip on the bottom in the middle of the wood, so if there's no snow or ice, it really drags.
We could have stayed out for awhile, but we were on the lake for 15 minutes so we could get back home to visit with Grandma Barb who had stopped by.

Savor the scars of childhood Nico

Here's a bruise from a fall two nights ago. It was scary for the 'rents, but Nico recovered in a couple minutes. Nico was running around at about 6:20 p.m. so it's getting into the dicey time when he's getting tired and tends to have the worst falls. So, there he was, running full speed in the sun porch heading for the front windows. At just the right moment, he tripped on his own feet and crashed his head on to the metal electric heating strip along the baseboard of the sun porch.
It was a loud crash/crack and Nico wasn't real happy about it. Daddy picked him up and did a quick examination because we had no idea exactly where Nico made contact. It was evident that it was on the side of his head. Mama took over and started nursing him and within 5 minutes he was laughing and yep, you guessed it, running at full speed once again.

Nico is really getting good about being with "new" people (those who are outside the daily bubble). He's really into showing people his kitchen and his tea set. He just loves having people sit down at his table - he indicates this by patting the seat, grunting, and looking at the intended sitter.
