April 2007

Nico napping in the crib

Submitted by stephen on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 - 13:58.

Peacefully resting in the crib... this lasted 2 minutes.  We got the crib from our sister in-law Heather's parents. It was in their basement. They had it set up for when Dave and Heather's kids, Rose and Anders, came a visiting.

Originally, this crib was purchased by my sister Laurie and her husband Brad Sherman down in Martin County Minnesota for Cousin Bobbi and Catie.

Cousin Catie will be visiting this weekend as part of her Day with Grandma 2007 (my Mom spends a day with her grandchildren for their birthday each year). Nico is on the schedule for 2008.

Finally, daytime!

Things seem so much easier in the light of day... Daddy and Nico are now rocking happily and comfortably after breakfast.

Last night was rough though. Nico had a tough time getting to sleep. He was warm, changed and fed, but each time we tried to put him down, or each time we even tried to sit down while holding him, he'd start fussing (sometimes wailing). The only thing that soothed him was being held while Mama or Daddy paced around the house. Daddy took the first shift and lasted a good half hour before asking for a break. Mama lasted a mere 20 minutes before her back was ready to give out (not a good sign at the rate this kid seems to be packing on the ounces!). Daddy took over again and made it the final hour or so until Nico was finally ready to hit the hay. It was about 2am.

After that, the night went as usual, quite smoothly -- feeding every 3 hours, rocked for 10 minutes or so after eating, and right to sleep. We all get a good 2 1/2 hours of sleep between feedings, which usually adds up to 7-8 hours of sleep per night!

Anyway, not sure what the lesson of this blog entry is...maybe just that things that seem almost intolerable at night seem easy in the morning. And night only lasts 8 hours or so, max. So buck up, Mama and Daddy!

Hanging out waiting for a meal

Just got out of the shower while Mama takes hers. Nico is wide awake, we're cutting it close to feeding time, but he seems fine with it.

Mama out on Nico's first walk around the block

Literally around the block, although it was the block across the street because there are some interesting gardens over there. It was quite pleasant, a beautiful 65 degree spring day, sun shining -- yes, Nico, the weather is always like this in Minnesota!

Getting ready for Nico's first walk

Clearly, Nico is excited for this little neighborhood garden tour. Daddy and Nico did a brief 10 minute walk around our own gardens this morning. They walked through the Mulberry Shade Garden, The Great White Pine Vegetable Garden, The Patio Patch, The Side Hosta/Sunflower Garden, The Native Prairie, The Herb Garden and finally the Boulevard Gardens. The plants are making great progress and growing each day - especially with yesterday's rain, everything seems to be taking off!
