Grandma C in the rocking chair

Submitted by stephen on Monday, April 16, 2007 - 18:22.

Nico's grandmother, Joan Connelly, has been in town from Cinncinati since Wednesday. We didn't have any pictures of her from the hospital, here's one of her from Sunday night. She's using the rocking chair Grandma Eisenmenger gave us, that's her standard gift to a child's first born and we've gotten hours of use out of it in the first 18 hours we've been home.

We called Grandma C to see if she'd make dinner for us and she made these asparagus dumplings with gruyere cheese wrapped in swiss chard - divine! We couldn't believe we were eating such delicious food and that Joan had made it! There was also a veggie salad prepared with an oil and vinegar dressing that was really good and low fat (we didn't ask such questions of the dumplings ;) )

Evidently Grandma C has a bunch of organic vegetarian recipes to try out on us and we can. not. wait. Thanks Grandma C!

Nico's family

Here we are in our HUGE room at Abbott Northwestern. Our friend Beth took this photo. We didn't get a picture of her holding Nico, but she was very excited for us and has been a great friend in supporting us these last 10 months. Although Daddy is in fact about twice as big as Mama, we didn't position ourselves well for proportions in this photo with big Daddy up front so I look at least 3 or 4 times bigger than I actually am.

Look at my wife! She looks like she got back from a bike ride around the lakes.

Nico Day Eisenmenger tipping the scales at 7 pounds 14.6 ounces

We finally got Nico weighed about two hours after he was born. We chatted with Nurse Kelly and Midwife Lois as we all took a guess: Daddy thought 6 pounds 8 ounces (because that's what Midwife Mary Wood told us a few weeks ago), Lois thought about 7 pounds and Kelly thought closer to 8 and then she backed off to 7.5 pounds.

7 pounds 14.6 ounces! That's like 8.4% of Molly's pre-pregnancy weight. He wasn't "Molly-sized" as Mary Wood thought he would be, he was closer to Stephen's 8 pounds 8 1/2 ounces when he was born.

Clearly, Molly deserves all the glory here and she delivered with grace and grit all through the process.
